Child Marriage in the Pacific
Every year, 12 million girls are married before the age of 18.

Child marriage disrupts a girl’s education, and limits her opportunities and choices.
"I used to think that my life would change for the better when I got married, but even the dream that I had that I would take care of my young brothers and sisters turned out to be a myth.”

The Pacific region has a relatively low prevalence of child marriage compared to other parts of the world.
In Subsaharan Africa, 35% of girls are married before 18. In South Asia, 29% of girls are married before 18.
While the prevalence of child marriage may be relatively low in the Pacific, this practice is a violation of the rights of thousands of girls across the region.
Ending child marriage is essential to ensuring all women and girls can fulfil their potential and live free from violence.
